9-1-1 Numbers to Know Senior Program
The Massachusetts 911 Department has developed the 9-1-1 Numbers to Know program for
senior citizens living in Massachusetts. This program will provide seniors with informaiton on how
9-1-1 works in Massachusetts including important information regarding home phones, cell phones
and medical alert devices.
When you have an emergency, who's the first person you call? For many seniors in need of help
that first call is to a family member or a friend. And in many cases that's the wrong call to make.
The Massachusetts State 911 Department wants everyone to know in times of emergencies
your first response should be to call 9-1-1. That's why we're working statewide with seniors to
increase awareness of the State's 9-1-1 System and its features, like the Silent Call Procedure, and to
make sure that everyone understands calling 9-1-1 first could save lives in the case of an emergency.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts' 9-1-1 System can provide you with valuable tools when help is
needed. This campaign is intended to instruct seniors about how to best utilize 9-1-1, and answer
some common questions like how 9-1-1 works with cell phones, the difference between 9-1-1 and
medical alert devices as well as different options for accessing 9-1-1 from their home phones.
Each 9-1-1 Numbers to Know Kit for seniors contains an informational video, safety information
